OpenAI has started rolling out GPT-6 Astra and this launch feels different from a typical model upgrade.
Astra is reportedly OpenAI’s first model to reach its internal “Critical” cybersecurity capability threshold, which means access to its most advanced capabilities is being introduced cautiously and in phases.
At the same time, OpenAI says Astra represents a step forward in:
• Software engineering
• Computer use
• Scientific and professional work
• Multi-step workflows
• Understanding user intent and staying within task boundaries
The bigger story is what this signals about the direction of AI.
We’re moving from models that mainly answer questions toward systems that can increasingly execute complex work on our behalf.
