YouTube is changing view counts on August 24, 2026: a view will count as soon as a video starts playing, rather than after 30 seconds for regular videos and livestreams.
That will likely make public view counts jump significantly, but monetization won’t change earnings and YPP eligibility will still rely on engaged views/watch time.
For marketers, the takeaway is simple: raw YouTube views will become more of an exposure metric and less useful as a measure of genuine engagement.
