Tick "Enable verbose logging" in Preview mode and Google tag logs show up in the Console tab of Tag Assistant.
This matches what the GA Debugger browser extension wrote to the browser console. GTM is moving logging into Tag Assistant instead. The extension was last updated in 2024 and will probably be deprecated at some point.
Watch out: the logs can't be exported yet, they only live in the table view of Tag Assistant. Filters by tag or template aren't there either.
