Google pushes agentic payments toward an open standard

Google is donating the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) to the FIDO Alliance to help shape the future of secure, agentic payments.

As AI-driven commerce evolves, open and interoperable standards are key to scaling innovation.

By transitioning AP2 to the FIDO Alliance, Google is ensuring it remains platform-agnostic, community-led, and built for broad adoption.

Google is also releasing AP2 v0.2 on GitHub introducing support for autonomous transactions, including “Human Not Present” payments, enabling agents to securely act on pre-authorized user instructions.

Alongside this, AP2 is advancing new standards like Verifiable Intent (co-developed with Mastercard), creating a tamper-proof record of agent actions for greater trust and accountability.

With strong industry momentum, AP2 is laying the foundation for secure, scalable agentic commerce across platforms.
