Google has announced an update to its Gambling and Games policy, allowing online gambling ads in Alberta, Canada, starting May 4, 2026.
The change permits advertising from operators authorized by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission.
What’s allowed
Lotteries: Must be run by government entities or federally licensed
Sports betting, online casinos, fantasy sports: Must be licensed at the provincial level and target only that province
Transition period rules
Only brand awareness campaigns are allowed initially
Ads must be strictly geo-targeted to Alberta
Advertisers must show proof of an AGLC license application to get certified
Bottom line: Google is opening the door to regulated online gambling ads in Alberta, but with strict licensing, targeting, and transitional limitations.
