Privacy PSA: Some Claude shared chats and Artifacts were reportedly indexed by Google, making sensitive information publicly searchable.
Researchers and journalists found exposed content that allegedly included medical records, internal company documents, employee reviews, source code, and personal information involving children.
The issue appears linked to Claude’s public sharing feature. Anthropic says shared links are only discoverable when posted somewhere search engines can access, while Google notes that website owners control whether public pages can be indexed.
The search results now appear to have been removed, but the incident is an important reminder: “Anyone with the link” may not always mean private.
Claude users should review their public links under:
Settings → Privacy → Shared Chats
Before sharing an AI conversation or Artifact, remove confidential, personal, or identifying information.
