It shows up on some installations running server container version 4.5.0. The GA4 client rewrites the customer email path in event_data.
Who is affected: about half of the setups Lars checked, with no clear pattern yet.
What still works: Google Ads and GA4 tags read both fields, and updated Stape templates do too.
What breaks: event data variables and templates that read user_data.email can no longer get the customer email.
To check your setup, create a dummy transformation and send a request with a user_data object to the server. If the GA4 client rewrites it, you are affected.
Your options: wait for a patch from Google, or update your setup to look for both user_data.email and user_data.email_address.
