Perplexity Introduces Industry-Leading Publisher Revenue Share

Perplexity AI has announced a bold new initiative: a $42.5 million revenue-sharing program that gives publishers 80% of revenues from its new $5/month Comet Plus subscription service.

Unlike traditional licensing deals, this is a usage-based model publishers earn when their content powers AI search results, assistant responses, or browsing activity.

The split is notably more generous than existing media platforms and marks one of the first direct attempts by an AI company to financially align with publishers.

This move comes as Perplexity faces mounting legal pressure over content use, but it also signals a new way forward: AI platforms and media companies working together rather than against each other.

Could this set the standard for how AI and publishers collaborate in the future?
