Chris Long posted that, Robby Stein from Google shared that users are more likely to click when links are embedded directly into AI Mode responses.
Based on this, Google is rolling out two new formats: inline links within the text and link carousels placed inside the answers.
For content creators and publishers, this is positive news: more links in AI Mode mean more opportunities for attribution and for driving users to their own sites.
However, while this should increase referral traffic, the overall impact may be limited. Many users will likely click through to learn more in some cases, but in others they may stay inside the AI-generated experience or ask more personalized follow-up questions.
