OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT Ads to 31 European countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Austria. The rollout begins next week, following six months of ad testing and expansion beyond the U.S.
Key points:
Who will see ads: Only users on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, and Enterprise remain ad-free.
Advertiser access: Initially through OpenAI’s Ads Solutions team, agencies, and technology partners. Self-service Ads Manager access is planned for later this summer.
Why OpenAI is adding ads: Advertising is intended to help fund broader access to ChatGPT while giving businesses a way to reach people when they are actively researching, comparing options, and making purchasing decisions.
Privacy and trust: Conversations remain private from advertisers, customer data is not sold, ads are clearly labeled and separate from ChatGPT answers, and advertising does not influence ChatGPT’s responses.
Advertising capabilities: OpenAI has added conversion optimization, geo-targeting, custom audiences, the OpenAI Pixel, a Conversions API, and third-party measurement integrations.
Growth so far: Tens of thousands of marketers have already advertised on ChatGPT. The 31-country European rollout is the platform’s largest expansion yet.
