Google has launched a campaign urging small business owners to oppose California Assembly Bill 566, a proposed law aimed at strengthening consumer privacy protections in digital advertising.
The company sent emails encouraging recipients to sign a letter from the Connected Commerce Council against the bill.
AB 566 would require browsers and mobile operating systems to provide a built-in setting that allows users to opt out of data collection easily.
Google argues the bill mandates new and untested technology that could confuse users and force businesses to waste money on irrelevant ads.
