YouTube just announced two updates that show exactly where the platform is heading.
More live stream monetization
YouTube is expanding live donations (“Jewels”), allowing more creators to earn directly from viewers during live streams similar to TikTok Live.
Better Shorts editing tools
New editing features make it easier to create and publish Shorts without external apps, lowering the barrier to short-form content creation.
What this means:
• YouTube is investing heavily in the creator economy
• Live streaming is becoming a stronger revenue channel
• Shorts remains YouTube’s main growth focus
Short-form + live content are no longer experiments.
They’re becoming core distribution channels.
