x-default

In the latest blog item from Search Central Google said that x-default is potentially underused by sites that already use hreflang.

X-default is used to “specify the language and region-neutral URL for a piece of content when the site doesn’t support the user’s language and region”

So x-default can send a user to a specific version of the website if there is no version for their language.
