Is Gemini becoming Google’s next big ad surface?

Maybe but not yet. Despite a recent report that Google plans to introduce ads in Gemini by 2026, the company’s ads leadership says differently.

Here’s the full picture:

What prompted the speculation? According to a report from Adweek, Google reportedly told several advertising clients it aims to roll out ad placements inside the Gemini app in 2026. This would be separate from ads already running in AI Mode or AI Overviews.

Buyers described those conversations as exploratory: no ad formats, pricing, or prototypes were shared.

What Google says now

Google’s VP of Global Ads, Dan Taylor, publicly refuted the report on X. He stated, “There are no ads in the Gemini app, and there are no current plans to change that.” The company clarified that while ads exist in AI Overviews, Gemini itself remains ad-free at least for now.
