Barry Schwartz discovered that Google is testing a new AI Mode feature called “Ask about any item.”
What it does:
• Lets users select products or local businesses directly in AI Mode.
• Google then generates side-by-side comparisons, specs, details, or business info — without leaving search.
• Applies to both shopping (e.g. product comparisons) and local (e.g. business listings).
This pushes Google further toward keeping users inside the AI search experience. Instead of clicking through multiple sites, people can get instant comparisons in-line.
