Anthony Higman discovered that Google recently updated their documentation on how the Google Ads auction works! Now, there’s a separate auction for each ad location and platform.
Until this year, the Google Ads auction worked like:
“Google Ads determines which ads should show with a ad auction that takes place every time someone searches on Google or visits a site that shows ads.”
Now, here’s how it works:
“When someone searches on Google, we run different auctions for each ad location, for example, top ads are selected by a different auction than ads in other locations. Your ads will only show once in a single location, but across different locations, your ads can appear more than once.”
