Google Ads newsletter – week 5 sponsored by ProfitMetrics.io

I launched my first product!

With all the Google Ads changes that I documented over the last years I found out that not everybody knows and understands all the settings.

Even worse, they use incorrect settings…That’s why I made a Google Ads Settings Checklist!

To make sure that you are taking full advantage of all the options you have in Google Ads.

The document costs € 75. But until Wednesday, it will be priced at € 50.

For more information on the template go to my website.

If you also want to get the most out of your conversion tracking I have another special deal until Wednesday.

If you buy the Advanced Conversion tracking mastery from PPC Mastery with the code: adriaan I will send you the document for free!

For the Tracking Deal visit PPC Mastery and use the code: adriaan.

Google Ads News

E-barometer January 2024

Fresh numbers are in for January 2024 in comparison to 2023, including e-commerce revenue, orders, ad spend, POAS, ROAS, and gross profit. Revenue is slightly higher than in 2023.

However, ad spend is up by +8.6%, making acquisition more expensive in 2024. On the positive side, gross profit has increased by +10.3%, surpassing the increase in ad spend, resulting in an overall increase in Blended POAS of +1.6% compared to the previous year. For more slides check the post from Frederik Boysen.

Further roll-out of new invoice overview

Thomas Eccel already saw it a few months ago. And now Patrick Gehn found again the new invoice overview in Google Ads.

– 13% more revenue

– YouTube Ads revenue grew by 15,5%

Total Ad revenue was a bit lower than what investors expected.$65.5 billion vs. $65.8 billion expected.

For more information read this page.

Some other information about the call from Google on Ads:

Ads and SGE:

Google is experimenting with ads native to SGE, aiming to enhance commercial journeys by displaying relevant ads alongside search results.

– Philipp Schindler, Google’s chief business officer, mentioned the success of ads positioned above or below the AI-powered overview in SGE.

– Recent launches include features like a one-stop deals destination, new filters (e.g., “get it fast”), and AI-generated gifting recommendations within SGE.

– Google has officially clarified that it has no plans to replace its advertising sales staff with AI!

Google Ads solutions

Mantas Mereckis & Sofia Akritidou found this new menu option in their Google Ads called solutions.

Now I have posted about this before because Dario Zannoni found some documents a few months ago about this. But now this tool is rolling out

With Solutions, you can create automated and customized workflows without making changes to the code.

For more information read this document.

Arpan Banerjee just noticed that Google made a small mistake in the new account anomaly detector in Solutions.

New Categories Local Service Ads

Consent mode update

Starting March 2024, for customers who have implemented consent mode, their ad_storage parameter will be automatically mapped to the new ad_user_data parameter.

No action is required for existing users of consent mode for measurement purposes.

RSA updates

Teodor Yordanov already saw this change a week ago. Google can now only show 1 headline.

Google stated that this can lead to better performance in some cases! If you want insights into how often only one headline or description shows you can review the combinations report.

If you have assets that are pinned to headline position 1, headline position 2, or description position 1, they’ll continue to show.

Besides this change, Google also announced the roll-out of campaign-level headlines and descriptions.

This is ideal for upcoming sales! The last change that Google announced is focused on automated assets.

Now when you’re opted in to account-level automated assets, Google AI will create assets on your behalf and show them with your ad if they’re predicted to improve your performance.

Before, if you manually created image assets, site links, callouts, or structured snippets, they would always serve in place of their automated counterparts!

New feature Custom label audience lists

Dario Zannoni found this new documentation on audience customer type. Audience customer types are labels that you can assign to an audience list to help Google understand what stage of the customer lifecycle the customers in your audience list are at.

This feature can help to optimize your campaigns towards specific types of customers.

As Google releases additional customer lifecycle goals beyond new customer acquisition, such as re-engaging disengaged customers, labeling your audience customer types will become even more important!
