Study on SGE

SE Ranking did a study focused on SGE a part of the study was on the coexistence of Google ads (including shopping ads) with Special Google Entity (SGE) snippets in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

They found that ads appeared alongside SGE snippets in various positions: at the top (23.19%), bottom (35.21%), or as shopping ads (14.41%).

Regarding the combination of ad types with SGE snippets, both shopping ads and top ads were found together in 1,018 cases, while shopping ads alone appeared in 2,660 cases, and top ads alone in 3,262 cases.

Shopping ads were predominantly positioned above SGE snippets (80.72%), followed by below (13.65%) and in the sidebar (5.63%).

Certain niches, like Fashion and Beauty, and Ecommerce and Retail, showed a higher inclination towards shopping ads, while others like Cars and Healthcare were more likely to have top ads accompanying SGE snippets.

Key conclusions include the prevalence of ads at the bottom of search results, the common occurrence of top ads with SGE snippets, the tendency for shopping ads to appear above SGE snippets, and the niche-specific distribution of ad types.

These insights can inform adjustments to PPC campaigns for better ad performance.

The Primary Channel Group allows you to control your default reporting channel, creating a record of custom channel changes over time for historical reporting purposes, while still maintaining all custom channel groups which reflect the most current definition across all historical data.
