100 Billion Dollar Investment

Arpan Banerjee just sent me this message that Microsoft is reportedly planning to finance a supercomputer project in the U.S., which is expected to be 100 times more expensive than existing data centers.

The cost is tentatively estimated at $100 billion, though expenses could surpass $115 billion.

This supercomputer, dubbed Stargate, is part of a series of supercomputers to be built over the next six years.

The project involves acquiring AI chips, with Nvidia CEO mentioning high prices for such chips.

Microsoft and OpenAI are currently in the third phase of a five-phase plan, with Stargate as the fifth phase.

The project is said to involve custom-designed computing chips and collaboration with different chip suppliers.

Microsoft has not directly commented on the reported launch of the Stargate supercomputer.
